My centralized location allows me to work often as a Hudson Valley wedding photographer. There are so many places where you can have a wedding in the Hudson Valley that are north of Poughkeepsie. This is a part of the valley where the natural surroundings really take over.
And this is a part of the state where my skill as a Hudson Valley wedding photojournalist can shine. With everything from grand estates to outdoor settings in rolling hills the types of weddings you can have here run the gamut.
A favorite wedding location for me is the Millbrook Winery. This is such a great, bucolic spot. Weddings in the well kept vineyard always produce beautiful images. It’s a small and intimate space, perfect for finding that slightly European feel that parts of the Hudson Valley can have.
The parent dances can be such a wonderful part of the wedding day. And with the mother and son dance, I’m usually on the lookout for reactions. There can be anything from joy and laughter to tears. In this instance, it was a reaction of pure excitement that her son was now a married man. And that will mean so much more over time than stopping them and making a cheek-to-cheek portrait.
And that’s my basic approach. Plan ahead, make a list of things we want to cover, gently guide and help so that you look your best and we make great photos. But, above all, let it happen and be there to make great photos when it does.
